In Brief: Tory leadership crisis - excitement mounts
28 Oct 2003
Excitement is mounting tonight after it was announced that the alleged Conservative leader, Iain Duncan Smith, is to face a vote of confidence tomorrow. Political commentators immediately descended into what can best be described as a state of manic foaming at the prospect of one unelectable and unappealing leader being replaced by another. As one said: "This is possibly the most important and exciting thing most relevant to people's daily lives to have happened since the fall of the Berlin Wall. I'm almost wet in anticipation."
