Tories: Asylum seekers should be checked for Britishness
6 Aug 2003
The Conservatives have proposed new checks on asylum seekers entering the UK. "We propose that all asylum seekers be checked for their Britishness. If they don't have a valid UK passport then their application should automatically be rejected," said the Shadow Home Secretary, Oliver Letwin. "Recent research shows that many asylum seekers are in fact from other countries – countries that have nasty diseases. By weeding out the potential disease-carriers and only allowing Britons to claim asylum we would drastically reduce the strain on the NHS."
The government has promised to consider Mr Letwin's ideas carefully.
Wow, look at this!
