Tories set out post-election plans

The Conservatives have set out their timetable for the days and weeks after Thursday's election. In some of the most detailed post-election plans ever seen, Michael Howard confirmed that the day following Thursday would be "Friday", after which would be "Saturday" and then – pending scrutiny of the government's accounts – "Sunday".

As expected, Mr Howard also said that June would follow May, with a referendum to be held on July sometime in August. December is to be privatised and therefore delayed by two years.

"Let there be no confusion about this," Mr Howard told confused pensioners. "We will not rely on airy-fairy talk. I have set out my proposals for the days and months ahead and if my colleagues do not stick to them they will be out. Unless I'm out first, of course."

A leaked Conservative Party memo, seen by DeadBrain, set out in more detail the party's internal "worst case/likely scenario" post-election timetable:

  • Friday, 6th May
    Concede defeat and begin recriminations
  • 6th-7th May
    Begin calls for new leader
  • 9th-15th May
    Leadership contenders emerge
  • 16th May
Gag Margaret Thatcher and Michael Portillo
  • 17th May-23rd August
    Protracted and humiliating leadership election
  • 2009/2010
Concede defeat to Prime Minister Gordon Brown
  • 2014/2015
    Boris Johnson elected Prime Minister
